This week Beaufort County Crime Stoppers would like to take time to warn citizens about scammers that have been calling in the beaufort and surrounding counties. Scammers often insist that people wire money, especially overseas, because it’s nearly impossible to reverse the transaction or trace the money. Don’t wire money to strangers, to sellers who insist on wire transfers for payment, or to anyone who claims to be a relative or friend in an emergency and wants to keep the request a secret. You can always search the phone number on the internet to see if it has been attached to any scams. Here are a few tips to go by, read your monthly statements, after a disaster, give money only to established charities, don’t send money to someone you don’t know, don’t reply to messages asking for personal or financial information, don’t play a foreign lottery.

If you have any information about these crimes or any others, please call crime stoppers at 252-974-6400. Crime stoppers will pay up to a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to an arrest in a case. And as always, at Crime Stoppers we only want your information not your name. For Beaufort county crime stoppers I’m Sgt. Kelly Cox.
